A Life of Purpose

At Lendy Park, we have become increasingly concerned by the growing number of children from privileged backgrounds who fall into destructive behaviours such as drug use and antisocial activities.

In response, we are committed to future-proofing our pupils, equipping them with the values and mindset necessary to avoid these harmful paths. We believe that the root of this problem lies in a deficiency in two key areas of a child’s life—both stemming from a lack of purpose. Too many children are merely going through life rather than truly living it.

We believe that when a child understands that they were created with a unique purpose by a loving Creator, they are far less likely to stray from the righteous path. A deep sense of God-given purpose is the most powerful safeguard against deviation. However, we acknowledge the challenge that hypocrisy in the world presents, especially in the Christian community; many children have become jaded by contradictions they see around them.

To counter this, we cultivate a culture of honesty and accountability. We are open about our own faults and weaknesses, allowing ourselves to be corrected by the children when necessary, and we expect the same from them. I recall a moment when a Grade 2 pupil reprimanded me for walking on the forbidden grass—this is precisely the sense of responsibility and integrity we seek to instill.

Beyond spiritual guidance, we also encourage our pupils to approach each day with clear goals. They are taught to set objectives for every lesson—”What must I master in mathematics today?”—and for every activity—”What do I hope to achieve in cricket today?”. We encourage them to engage actively, rather than simply drifting along without direction. This language of purpose is woven into our daily interactions, creating an environment where children internalise this mindset as a way of life.

We firmly believe that this approach—helping children discover their God-given purpose and encouraging an active, goal-oriented attitude—will bear the fruit we seek. By grounding them in faith and purpose, we are shaping individuals who will not only succeed academically but also lead lives of integrity, service, and fulfilment.
